What are little Nippers?
Nippers is a fun way for children aged 5 to Under 14 to enjoy the beach in a safe environment. The Junior Development Program is designed to ensure children have fun at the beach while participating in lessons that will give them a pathway to becoming a fully rounded participant in both lifesaving and sport.
Where did Nippers start?
The first Nippers club in Australia was started by Nambucca Heads Surf Life Saving Club, on the New South Wales mid-north coast, in 1961.
Why are Nippers called Nippers?
Nobody likes being called Nipper, big brothers have called their little brothers that since time immemorial, but we decided to make them a part of the club from the start … the aim was to save their lives and recruit them so they became involved and stayed with the club as they got older. The name certainly stuck.
How much does it cost to do Nippers?
How much does Nippers cost? The annual fee is $125 per child, plus a once off $50 building levy for new registrations.
Do you have to be able to swim to join nippers?
Before you can officially join the nippers program, all kids need to go through a series of swimming tests. This usually includes holding your breath underwater for 30 seconds to basic swimming strokes. The tests vary for each age group.
What are nippers bait?
Nippers are saltwater crustaceans. They live beneath the sand in the intertidal estuary zones. An “intertidal zone” is one where during a normal tidal fluctuation water covers it during periods of rising tide but exposes it during falling tides. This is still the case even when the sand flats are dry and exposed.
Are nippers good for kids?
It is a fun outdoors activity that grows a child’s confidence, teaches valuable life skills and knowledge. Nippers is a great way for children to make friends, be active and enjoy the beach.
How long does nippers season run for?
The season runs from October though to March with two weeks break over the Christmas / festive season.
